Advantage Preservation:
Cranston Library Launches Digital Historic Newspaper Archive

The launch of the Cranston Public Library digital archive was featured in the Cranston Patch yesterday. The Advantage Preservation project was funded by a grant from the Champlin Foundation to create a keyword searchable archive for some of the largest newspaper titles in the state of Rhode Island spanning 1885 – current day.

The Community History Archive for the Cranston Public Library is available online at cranston.advantage-preservation.com. Library Director Edward Garcia stated that “We hope this freely accessible archive will be of special interest for local history and genealogical research and be a tool for exploring the rich history of Cranston”.

Available Newspaper titles and dates include:

Cranston Herald (1936-1975)
Cranston City Times (1921-1925)
Cranston Herald Today (1975)
