Cranston Library Launches Digital Historic Newspaper Archive

The launch of the Cranston Public Library digital archive was featured in the Cranston Patch yesterday. The Advantage Preservation project was funded by a grant from the Champlin Foundation to create a keyword searchable archive for some of the largest newspaper titles in the state of Rhode Island spanning 1885 – current day.

The Community History Archive for the Cranston Public Library is available online at Library Director Edward Garcia stated that “We hope this freely accessible archive will be of special interest for local history and genealogical research and be a tool for exploring the rich history of Cranston”.

Available Newspaper titles and dates include:

Cranston Herald (1936-1975)
Cranston City Times (1921-1925)
Cranston Herald Today (1975)
Cranston Leader (1889-1890)
Cranston News (1922-1939)
Cranston Today (1972-1975)
Howard Times (1885-1905)
Herald News (1939-1940)
Cranston Herald News (1939)
Neighborhood News (1930)
