The Advantage Companies was highlighted in the Kewanne, Illinois Star Courier for working directly with the Kewanee Historical Society, Henry County Genealogical Society and Kewanee Public Library to digitize over 420 rolls of microfilm for the library. The microfilm which was previously accessible at the library and available to view on microfilm readers, contains Kewanee newspapers dating back to 1879. Once the digitization is complete, Kewanee papers will be accessible via the Kewanee Public Library website providing a keyword searchable database. Dave Clarke, the Author of the article in the Star Courier, outlined the importance of newspaper preservation:

“Newspapers provided a permanent record of everything every day, big or small, which one could go back to find years, even decades, later.”

Mr. Clarke also detailed the difficulties of storing newspapers and some of the advantages of microfilming and digitization:

“Storing newspapers is often a bulky process. When it comes to daily newspapers, some of which are published seven days a week, others six, and yet others, like the Star Courier, five, the stack of old newspapers could get pretty high.“

We understand the difficulties of storing newspapers properly and the benefits of preserving this content on microfilm and making it available to the public through digitization. The Advantage Companies are happy to work to preserve Kewanee history and insure their records are preserved and accessible to Kewanee residents for years to come.
