Initial fundraising goal for newspaper
digitization project reached
The York News-Times of Nebraska published an article yesterday highlighting the efforts of Fillmore County libraries to raise funds to digitize a century’s worth of county newspapers.
Thanks to grant funding and donors, microfilm is set to be sent to Advantage where more than 20 Fillmore county newspapers ranging from 1872-2000 will be made fully searchable and available online at fillmorecountyne.advantage-preservation.com.
Library directors involved in the project where pleasantly surprised at the reaction of the community when fundraising efforts started in May of this year as the goal was met only three months later.
Sarah Johnson, Geneva Public Library Director, said “People in the county are excited about the usefulness of the project, and recognize the value of what we’re trying to accomplish.”
Fundraising efforts are ongoing as the county hopes to digitize 2000-on and continue to add to the valuable collection.
